We at Rupert McBain Studio specialise in creating bespoke furniture and restoring antique pieces for private households, stately homes, historic collections, Church Commissioners, museums and insurance companies. We have an amazing reputation for using our craft at the highest level, using the best technology and fantastic materials for those across Yorkshire, Cumbria and the North East. Rest assured the furniture you love will be in the hands of experts. Here at our studio in County Durham, we are able to handle many aspects of furniture restoration and conservation from carving and cabinetmaking right through to gilding, fretwork, veneer & marquetry, metal work, leather work, polishing, French polishing, and upholstery – this amount of skills is very attractive to many of our clients. We have a good stock of 17th to 19th century timber and veneers for our work too.

We take the time to communicate costs and decisions clearly beforehand so that budgets can be allocated and the work can be planned and executed efficiently. Some projects can be done by just one member of our team from start to finish, but there are times when a project may need the input from a number of people.

As mentioned, we also create bespoke pieces of furniture as well. We love creating fine furniture with distinctive forms and using exquisite materials. The possibilities in which we can create are exciting and unlimited. We have found clients also love the creative journey of the commissioning process. They can bring their own ideas, materials and shapes to the process. We believe discussions, thoughts, guidance and input are all very important as well as the trust that the eye and experience of the designer will give clients something truly special.
